World Mosquito Program Yogyakarta

The World Mosquito Program in Yogyakarta (“WMP Yogyakarta”) is a collaborative project between Monash University, Gadjah Mada University and Tahija Foundation. WMP Yogyakarta is part of a global, not-for-profit initiative that is working to protect local communities from mosquito-borne diseases.

WMP Yogyakarta has utilized safe and natural Wolbachia bacteria to prevent transmission of mosquito borne diseases, such as dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and Yellow fever.

WMP Yogyakarta has been the main project for the Tahija Foundation since 2011. In August 2020, WMP Yogyakarta announced an extremely promising result from a gold-standard Randomised Controlled Trial conducted over 3 years in Yogyakarta city. The results showed a 77% reduction dengue incidence in Wolbachia treated communities.
